Clearview IceCats

                                Midget A Team

2011/12 season

Hi there everyone
I wanted to touch base with you regarding my involvement with the girls team this year.
I am coaching a Bantam boys LL team as well as helping out with a Bantam A boys team and the Ice Cats Midget A team this year.
I have alot going on for sure but I really want to be able to help the girls this year as much as I can.
My involvement will be mostly helping asses the teams needs from breakdowns I see in games and helping teach and correct those breakdowns.
I will give you an example of what I saw on Sunday.
For the most part that game should have been much closer and with the scoring chances we had we could have easily won the game.
3 breakdowns in positioning in the offensive zone created odd man rushes back into our end which resulted in the first 3 goals.
A 3 goal deficit in girls hockey is a big hole to climb out of.
When I talked to the girls in the spring I told them all to shoot pucks during the summer to become better at shooting.
I don't know how many did it but in the game on Sunday there were at least 4 opportunities for players to score if they could have shot the puck high and quicker.
That goes for our defense as well; on many clearing attempts in our own zone those attempts ended up being passes to the other teams defense rather than out of the zone.
There are many different no no's in hockey and I have a list I tell my players.
1 -body position without the puck, always between the opposing player and your goal anywhere on the ice
2 -F1,F2,F3, forward positioning all over the ice.
F1 is the player closest to the puck carrier or the player with the puck
F2 is the next closest player to F1, supports by cutting off the passing lanes to the boards and stays high, drives the net in the offensive zone.
F3 is the 3rd closest player and supports F1 by cutting off the middle of the ice high in the zone on a forecheck and is the trailer when F1 gains the offensive zone with the puck.

Without the puck - 1 forces the puck carrier, 2 back in support
Fighting for the puck - 2 on the puck, 1 back in support
With the puck - 2 down low one always high in support
